What do we do in this Choir Class?

Choir Class D rehearses twice a week. Both times the children come to choir rehearsal and one of those times they have the solfège- and singing lesson is a small group before the rehearsal.

During the choir rehearsal the children learn various songs in different languages. In Choir Class C they laid the foundation for sightreading, so they learn the songs from their blue choir folder. Every week we also have time for stage presentation, to make sure they stand confidently on stage during the annual Christmas- and Summerconcert. Choir Class D also gets to perform in a big production alongside The Hague Children's Choir from time to time!

Another part of the lesson is the singing lesson. In a small group they get to know their voice and learn to use it in a healthy way. Learning to listen to each other and discovering the own voice we do according to Lichtenberg. Every new discovery is a great step in the development of this beautiful, personal instrument!

Finally there is the solfège- and theory lesson. Here the children work from Music Theory Junior of Basis, in which they learn the building blocks of music in a playful way. They show the teacher individually what they practiced from Jongleren at home. With this book and by practicing at home regularly, they learn how to read notes step by step.

In the autumn Choir Class D has a rehearsal day together with Choir Class C! Here you learn what the 'choir life' is all about. This day is a preparation for the rehearsal weekend in spring. Then Choir Class C and D will go away for the weekend to sing and play all day with professional guidance. After the weekend it is always great to see that the children come home with extra confidence and new friends. They would love to go again the next weekend!

The teacher of Choir Class D is Janneke Klompenhouwer.
