For parents

Can my child have a trial lesson?

Yes, definitely! You can get to know the ACVA with an intake and two trial lesson. This is €20,- and afterwards you can let us know if you want to join.

What is an intake?

During the intake you meet the teacher, the building and the materials for the lesson. If it wasn't yet clear in which group your child will start, we determine that together during the intake.

What happens after the trial lessons?

After the trial lessons we ask if we can register your child. Is the answer yes? Welcome! You will receive an e-mail with further information about the registration. Your child is the next lesson directly welcome as member of the group! Is the answer no? No hard feelings; we go our separate ways.

Where do the lessons take place?

All lessons take place in our beautiful building at the historical location in the Haringstraat, Scheveningen, The Hague.

Can I attend the lesson as parent?

During special 'watching days' the parents are warmly invited to see the lesson! These days are once every half year. The other lessons are for choir members only.

Where can I see the exceptions on the regular schedule?

After logging onto our website you can see the activity schedule at 'overzicht'. Here you can find all the exceptions to the regular schedule, like holidays, joint rehearsals or concerts. Is nothing there? That means there is lesson as ususal!

Can I pay in installments?

Yes, that is no problem! Please notify our administration (info@acva.nl), so the bookkeeping is up to speed. This way we avoid unnecessary reminders.

Why do I receive an invoice for the whole calendar year?

The invoice is for the whole calendar year, from January-December. If your child proceeds to the next group in September, a suppletion invoice will follow for the difference in those last four months. Who would like to quit in september, has to notify our administration before June 1st. If done so, 4/10 of the tuition, for the months september-december, will ben reimbursed. Who woule like to quit in January has to notify the administration before December 1st.

What do the coloured folders mean?

Every color is another class or choir. Choir Class B has a green folder, Choir Class C and D have a blue one, The Hague Children's Choir has a red folder, Musicanti a yellow one and Cantamare and the Young Men's Chorus have a black folder.

I am 14 years old and I have no singing experience. Where do I start?

Especially for the 'older' starters, we have preliminary phases, for The Hague Children's Choir, Cantamare or the Young Men's Chorus. Please take a look there!

When can I join the next group?

At the ACVA we look at every student individually. We consider in which group you fit best. You can show that you want to go to the next group by practicing for solfège at home, actively participate in class and show that you're having fun of course! We will invite your for the next step when the time is right.

I've sung in a choir before. Can I right away join a concert choir?

That depends on you! We would love to invite you to audition to see what level you're at. Depending on your age and level we will make a recommendation in which group you fit best.

Can I be rejected in an audition?

No, most certainly not! Everyone until 10 years old can start anytime in one of the Choir Classes. If you're older than 10, it may be that your level is not the same as your peers or the group that you had in mind. Together we will look at the preliminary phases to catch up as quick as you can so you can enter one of the choirs when you're ready.
